This species of prickly ash, a close relative of Sichuan Pepper, is a native of Taiwan and is also called Taiwanese Prickly Ash, Formosan Prickly Ash and Japanese Prickly Ash. Unlike some of the other species of prickly ash, which tend to be a bit spicy in nature, Formosan Prickly Ash is incredibly fragrant in the softer, sweeter tones and has an almost marzipan and almond aroma to it. The leave is loaded with fantastically fragrant essential oils that really pack a punch. This is a herb that is sure to grow in popularity outside of Asia in the near future as more people get introduced to it. Producing a soft silky almost oily texture when eaten, it does exceptionally well with sweets. Perfectly suited for drinks, especially cocktails and alcoholic beverages, it also does fantastic in cakes, pudding, candies and is even utilized locally in Taiwan with some proteins such as eggs.

Formosa North offers powdered Prickly Ash Leaf grown on our farms in SE Taiwan. The leaves are harvested by hand, hand washed, dried and powdered. The powdered product will last 1 year in proper storage.
