SHELL GINGER LEAF

Alpinia zerumbet

The leaves of Shell Ginger, a Taiwanese native species, has long been used as a wrapping for foods in Taiwan. Taiwan's delicious triangular Rice Dumpling utilizes the leaf of Shell Ginger to wrap the rice, meat, bean and mushroom ingredients while they steam, also serving as a perfect and natural packaging for delivery or freezing. The leaf itself holds some incredible essential oils, which infuse the outer rice layer with some of its fantastic flavor.

Formosa North offers Shell Ginger Leaf grown on our farms in SE Taiwan. The leaves are harvested by hand and dried. The leaves will last 2 years in proper storage. Leaves are dried flat and measure 20-30cm long. Custom cut sizes available upon request. Formosa North also provides Shell Ginger Rhizome Powder, Shell Ginger Seed and Shell Ginger Flowers.
